AIN'T FOR ME
“Ain't for Me" is the latest single from Houston artist Fat Tony. It’s about a Black American family who leaves home for another country. History gives us a thousand reasons to want a life outside of the United States, but this song isn't a list of grievances. It's a man leading his family on an ex-pat journey. His cousin thinks he's wrong, but his daddy's riding with him. Cognizant of his privilege as an American anywhere in the world and aware that every nation fights an oppressor, he takes his wife and son to find respect. Producer GLDNEYE's composition is anthemic and minimalist, with Gershwin-inspired movements accompanying our future expat throughout the track.
AIN'T FOR ME (BLOCKHEAD REMIX)
Sometimes, things just work out. Back in August, a fan tweeted that legendary beatmaker Blockhead should remix Fat Tony’s Exotica pinnacle moment “Gambling Man.” Although “Gambling Man” had already received the remix treatment (of the Mariachi variety), the tweet inspired Tony to connect with fellow Tony, Tony Simon aka Blockhead. Fat Tony’s focus had also shifted towards the single “Ain’t For Me,” the story of a Black American family leaving home for another country. Fat Tony sent the track to Blockhead, an instant fan, and one day later a remix was delivered. The result is a masterful pairing of Blockhead's signature hip-hop production with the lyrical punch we’ve come to know from Fat Tony.
